Changes in climate already are producing more frequent flooding, longer periods of drought, more intense storms, and rising sea levels. Scientists expect these changes to increase in severity and frequency. As a consequence, the world will experience increased food and water shortages, damage to infrastructure, spread of disease, and species and habitat loss, among other changes. Reducing vulnerability and increasing capacity to adapt to climate change across sectors and segments of society is important to protect the economy, the environment, and our health.

Abt Associates works with stakeholders worldwide to identify climate-related impacts, understand key sources of vulnerability, and prioritize and implement adaptation measures to manage the uncertainty of our future climate.
We have a multi-disciplinary team of economists, scientists, engineers, and policy analysts who collaboratively develop solutions to address complex, cross-sectoral climate challenges by analyzing information, strengthening policy, testing approaches, and building partnerships.
Abt Associates supports a wide range of clients in understanding climate impacts, assessing vulnerability, and adapting to changes in climate. For example, we lead the Asian Development Bank’s Building Capacity for Climate Resilience in Tajikistan where we introduce and demonstrate ways to integrate climate risk and resilience into core development planning and implementation. We also supported USAID’s largest global adaptation program Climate Change Resilient Development, conducted a vulnerability assessment and developed a resiliency action plan for the Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and assessed the vulnerability of Seattle City Light’s transmission and distribution system to extreme climate events.
